You may have noticed that new projects have been added to our calendar and project listing. These new projects are part of our Volunteer Source Referral Network which will allow Hands On Miami to partner with the non profit sector in order to be the central place where Miami residents can find volunteer opportunities throughout Miami Dade county. This is part of an exciting partnership with Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Alvarez in a new Mayoral Initiative on Civic Engagement and Volunteerism to further promote volunteer service in our community.
How are these projects different from Hands On Miami projects?
These projects are managed directly by the agencies that post them. You will either click a button that says “Have Agency Contact Me” or you will be able to sign up by clicking the “Sign me up” button, as you do for our projects. The referral projects will be clearly marked, however, with a disclaimer that we are not managing the project. In the calendar page, all projects managed by us can be seen in yellow. You can also search for referral projects by clicking the “Search Projects” tab at the top of the page under the Volunteer Projects link. Any questions/concerns about those events should be directed to the agency posting it. You do not need to attend an HOM orientation to participate in these projects.
Why do I need to attend an orientation for some projects and not for others?
Hands On Miami requires volunteers to go through an orientation in order to participate in any Flexible calendar projects managed by Hands On Miami. Go to the “Get Started” link on the left navigation menu to take our short online orientation.
